Montana ~ Yellowstone

As promised, here is another picture from our trip to the Crazy Mountain Ranch. One of our choice of activities was a tour through the northern section of Yellowstone National Park. Skye and I are standing before a gorge, with an icy waterfall in the background. When we first entered the park through the Roosevelt Arch, everyone was exclaiming over the elk and bison that were on either side of the road ~ by the time we left, these animals had become common sites. We also saw mule deer, big horn sheep, coyote and the Druid Peak wolf pack. Very cool. Our two guides gave a continuous, and entertaining commentary regarding the history and geology of the park.

Bella Beads Classes March 2008

Bella Beads is a really cute bead shop. Jennifer carries a wide variety of all types of beads and findings and her shop is the host location for the Huntsville Bead Society. The shop has been created from a small house, and has a nice classroom area with lots of natural light. Here is a photo of a few of my wonderful students.

Classes at Bella Beads, Huntsville, Alabama

Right before Skye and I left for Montana, I had the pleasure of teaching a wonderful group of ladies at Bella Beads, in Huntsville, Alabama. A friend from DragoCon ~ Natha, and the Huntsville Bead Society had invited me to teach a selection of classes they chose from my classes catalog. It was a great weekend, full of eager students who all made some beautiful pieces of wire jewelry!

Crazy Mountain Ranch ~ Montana

What an amazing trip! My daughter, Skye won a trip for two from Marlboro and invited me as her guest. Yes, this really is me driving, (mushing), a dog sled team. How cool was that! Let me tell you though, it was really hard work. We were about 7000 feet above sea level, and the air was so thin. The wonderful staff at the guest ranch made sure everyone was constantly hydrating - water was everywhere, as well as a wonderful variety of snacks. We were provided with all the clothing and gear we needed for the climate, any activities we chose to participate in, and more. There were constant gifts and suprises throughout the entire trip. We met a variety of other winners and their guests from all over the states. Look for more pictures later this week!

Ric & Lori Hussey from Ontario, Canada

During all of our 'unusual' winter weather this March, Ric and Lori Hussey drove down from Canada, for Ric to take classes with me. Lori has been a glass blower from age 15, and Ric makes some beautiful dichroic glass. Working with his glass, Ric had been playing around with wire for a while and had done quite well, but you should see his pieces now! After just two intensive days, Ric is creating some awesome wire jewelry! His experience as an architectual engineer really shows in his ability to master tool techiques and wire. (I can hardly wait to see the finished 'homework' challenge I gave him.) Best wishes to both of you - so glad you made it home safely. I am looking forward to our next workshops together.

Sonja Kiser from Ghan, Kentucky

Sonja an I met as a result of my Buzzy Bee project in a 2007 issue of Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry mag. She came for her first private workshop in late November and we have just completed her Tech II session! Sonja works as an art teacher at a middle school and is very talented. She brought several designs for me to see, based on our first classes ~ amazing! I have encouraged her to submit one of these projects to SBS Wire. As you can see she has already gone beyond with this design, made in our last class. It will be exciting to see what she does with all of her new skills when she returns in June for Tech III, (working with all faceted stones).

Private Class with Judy Milner

As soon as I returned home from Bangor, Maine, Judy Milner came in for a two day Novice Workshop. Judy has wonderful ideas and it was a pleasure to teach her the basics of wire working, so she can get started making some of the things that have been trapped in her mind. We discovered that Judy doesn't live too far from me, so we'll be working together again, in the near future. Good Luck Judy!!

Cougar Visits the White Northeast in February

As many of you already know, sometimes I am so busy that I don't remember to send out newsletters, so along with my new site design I am going to attempt to maintain this blog.

In February I traveled to The Beaded Moose in Bangor, Maine. Besides teaching classes to a wonderful group of students during our "Cabin Fever Days", hosted by Dora and Aleshia, I also had the opportunity to spend some quality time with my brother and his family. (BTW, my brother is also the Web Wizard who designs and hosts my site.) While there I learned that after 17 years I could still drive in a major snowstorm, and that 18 degrees in Maine really is warmer than 30 degrees in Tennessee!
Stay tuned ~ hopefully I will be able to keep this up-to-date.
