Prong Rings + Jill Gentry

This was Jill's 4th 'in-studio' session with me, in as many years. She finally was ready to, and made, some gorgeous prong rings! Yes ~ two days of nothing but learning how to properly formulate and create nice prongs for small as well as huge gemstones, as well as how to custom size these beauties. (Please note that I say 'prongs', not claws - when made correctly, they will secure a stone in a ring without the wire across the top). Prongs have their days - either they "happen", or they don't.
Jill began her wire jewelry career, by making magnetic beaded bracelets, and decided to take it a step further - by coming here for classes and with LOTS of practice. Her wonderful family gives her excellent support, and she has graduated from doing just 'arts 'n craft' shows - to taking awards at juried shows!
I also have to tell the world how proud and excited I am for Jill ~ as she has been accepted in the Kentucky League of Craftsmen!! Way to go Jill!! (Now, get back to work.)

Dawn Vandenberg

Dawn came in from Appleton, WI and has just spent the past three days learning traditional, wire jewelry design from me. She built a great realtionship with a variety of wire gauges and tempers and produced some beautiful pieces. It was fun to see where she is 'headed' while developing her personal style.

Beth Fellows

Beth came from Asheville, NC for her first in a series of project classes, on May 12th. We had a nice time getting aquainted, and then made "the" bracelet. She will be returning for future sessions, and got a 'homework' assignment to complete before our next class.

Bead Fest Wire Philly ~ 5

Walking into my classroom on sunday morning was like a reunion party! It was so cool to have so many previous students/friends come in to take the Prong Pendant class with us. I was extremely pleased to introduce yet another 'underpaid assistant', Mint, and Gina jumped in to help as well. Jack, one of our new students, is an awesome baker who brought in a huge variety of goodies, including Italian specialty cookies, donots, crumb cake, and mini eclairs, (and a few other things ~ I don't have any idea what they were, but they were delicious). Mint's husband Dean became my 'on the spot' photographer, and Beth treated us to dark chocolate truffles. (Someone brought some glazed chocolate donots holes too - yum!) We also had the pleasure of having another instructor take this class.
Yes, it was an intense, intermediate/advanced project, but everyone learned the techniques taught and many wore their finished pendants home that day.
Sunday fternoon, Dottie and I had a full class for the Crystal Wave Ring - but somehow I forgot to get a group picture, sorry. I guess everyone was ready to get headed home after a such full weekend.
Thank-you all, so very much, for being part of one of the wondeful experiences that makes teaching so rewarding to me.

Bead Fest Wire Philly 2008 ~ 3

Saturday morning I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Leslie Rogalski, (editor in chief, SBS Bead magazine), for "Beads, Baubles and Jewels", the nationally broadcast PBS television program. Afterwards I shopped a bit with TB Hagstoz for wire, and always find new 'sparkly things' at Holy & Pure Gemstones. Dottie and I then returned to my classroom to teach my Buzzy Bee Scatter Pin. (One of my favorite projects.) It's always fun to see a student's eyes when a project 'comes together'.

Bead Fest Wire Philly ~ 2

Friday evening, we taught how to 'cage a crystal'. Using sterling silver wire, accent beads, gemstone chips and beautiful quartz crystals, these folks wore their new creations out of class. (I think I got the right picture)

Beadfest Wire Philly 2008 ~ 1

This past weekend, my wonderful friend and assistant, Dottie Arnao and I had yet another great experience with all of our classes. We both enjoy meeting new students/friends and watching as they turn out some beautiful, finished projects. Here is the group who participated in the Ornate Cabochon Bracelet class on friday from 9 to 4.
