After 10 days of classes at the Jogs Show, I finally got to relax and shop a bit with my daughter Skye. Although we only made it to 3 shows today, I was able to get almost everything I had on my classes supply list for the next year. We went through everything back at our hotel and thought it would be fun for you to see what we found today. (Of course the 30 pounds or so of rough rock are in the back of the truck!)

My final class at this year's Jogs Show was teaching my Freeform Drusy Pendant to Paula McClain of CA, and Pat Page and Alan O'Brien of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They all had beautiful pieces when we finished the day. See you all next year!

It was fun to work with Denise Finnel and her daughter Cynthia on my 'Orbit' Prong pendant this morning. (A great prerequisite to the ring class I'll be offering here next year). They took several classes with our Jogs Instructors both this year and last. (Jewelry making is addicting!!)

Monday, the final day of classes at the Jogs show. I began the day by teaching Suzie Pohle of Wisconsin, how to cage an arrowhead into a pendant. Suzie owns an antique store and is very interested in artifact collecting. What a perfect project for her! It came out so nice too.

Wow! What a fun class we had on Sunday afternoon! Sarellen Loomis of Texas, Kelli Otten and Gayle Arntzen of Montana, Elaine Hooper of AZ, and Antonia Estep of California all came to learn how to make my Braided Beaded Bracelet. We had a few sterling silver beads escape, but everyone left wearing their new creation.

Sunday morning I had the pleasure of working with Heather McLean, who lives here in Tucson. She made the Classic Cabochon Ring in a combination of sterling silver and gold-filled wires with a blue goldstone cabochon, (provided by Fire Mtn Gems). the result is really beautiful - like a starry sky. Hope to see you again Heather!

Yes, I also had a very fortunate student today, as she received one-on-one instruction to make the Classic Cabochon Ring. Paula and her husband, (from central California), work in glass and she came to learn how to make their glass into ring designs. Nice work Paula!

Lana May was covered up with students today! Not only does she teach very detailed designs, but also basic stringing. Several folks came by with beads they had just purchased, to learn how to string them into finished necklaces they could wear home. If you would like to see more of her work, visit Lana's website http://lana-bead.info/

My daughter, Skye is a self-taught chain maille jewelry maker who decided to take advantage of being here to learn the detailed Persian weave from Olena Bugrimenko. (While working and laughing away, Skye is also learning a few Russian words.) Olena's work is very beautiful! She is a joy to be around and yes, did you guess? She is another Gemini! Check out her website to see more of her work and the kits she has available here: www.sparklingfantasy.com

Today I thought I would take a few candid pictures of some of the instructors I work with at the Jogs show. Meredith Arnold is a comedian artist specializing in jewelry and mixed media work. Her work has been published in many books and magazines and is exhibited nationally. As a Professional Teaching Artist, Meredith teaches around the U.S. as well as being on faculty at two different colleges and an arts center in the Seattle area. Meredith's main goal as a teacher is to make sure her students are successful and that they enjoy their learning process in her classes. You can see more of her work on her website: www.mereditharnold.com (She is so much fun to be around!)

Although the lighting at the Swarovski event was beautiful for the sparkling crystals, it made photographs difficult. Tatiana Van Iten, http://www.beadsky.com/tatiana_van_iten.php?ln=en visits with Denise Peck, (Editor in Chief Step-by-Step Wire magazine).

As Tatiana and Lana May's guests, Geri Cook and I were honored to attend the Swarovski party Friday evening. We met some new people, visited with old acquaintances and friends, and saw some amazing jewelry designs as Swarovski Crystals sparkled on every wrist, finger, neck, several handbags, shoes and even the tables and floor! On the way out, these wonderful mannequins, (decked out in Swarovski products), were posed to allow us to pose with them. Here's Geri Cook, (beading instructor at Jogs Show from Louisville, KY), posing for me.

I flew my daughter, Skye, out to experience the gemshows on thursday evening. She got delayed in Chattanooga and was rerouted to Phoenix ~ so I made the almost 3 hour drive on thursday night to get her at 11:30pm. (Good thing I had Friday off!) I took her to 'my' show first, the Jogs Show, where she was amazed by the size of this gigantic amethyst geode. We then wandered a bit at the Electric Park show where we both indulged in some beautiful tie-dye, I found a cool new rough material named 'Tube Jasper', and we made it back in time for me to get ready for the Swarovski party. (I do have to go back to TEP though as I forgot to get some new blades for the rock saws!)

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Christian and Nina Albert who came to shop and play in Tucson from Bad Kissingen, Germany. (Christian is a lapidary, certified with Idar-Oberstein.) Nina and Christian own and operate a mineral and fossil store where they design and make most of the jewelry they sell themselves. I taught them both how to frame free form cabochons into wire pendants and can hardly wait to see what they do with this knowledge when they return home.

I managed to get both Tatiana and Lana May to stop for a minute, in front of our classroom banner. The detailed bead work these ladies do totally amazes me ~ I love looking at it, but I'm not sure I could spend endless hours working with those tiny things!

Wednesday I had an amazing group of ladies take my All Wire Bangle Bracelet class. They are Gale Petrie of Tucson; Janice Strauss of Endicott, NY; Rebecca Strauss of Sidney, NY; Patricia White from White Plains, NY; Linda Briggi from Raleigh, NC; and Debra Quarve from Fargo, ND. We had a lot of fun, made new friends and some really pretty bracelets! (It's been so nice to have had several students return in 2009, to learn more from classes we did together last year.)

Ok - our shopping took a major turn at Sierra Madres Mining company, where we all 'got into troucle' buying some of the most beautiful cabs imaginable from Sara and Armondo. (BTW ~ Congratulations to John and Neyla Bajoras on the birth of your new daughter!!)

Today's class was learning how to work freeform, drusy cabochons into pendant designs by mixing gauges and tempers of wire. I began the class by taking my students to one of the show vendors, Brazil Rock Shop, where I purchased the cabochons they chose to work with today. Lisa Graves came from Hebron, Maine; Kat Paull from Maui, HI celebrated her birthday by treating herself to my class, and Arlene Koker is a returning student whose home base is in Michigan. Each of these ladies made totally different designs, using the same techniques, and left with gorgeous pieces. (yes, that's me looking totally surprised as Lana May took the picture)

I also really enjoy being around the creative folks I work with at different locations. I grabbed a picture of Titaniana Van Iten just after she donned one of her many, award winning designer pieces. This one just back in her possession after being part of a gallery/museum tour, features Earth treasures of ammonites, picture jasper and feathers, (just to name a few.) All of the folks I work around are such fun! (I plan on getting a good shot of Lana May sporting one of her new designs tomorrow.)

Gretel and Len Matrai stopped by from British Columbia, for Gretel to learn how to make the classic cabochon ring. Gretel is a professional glass blower, and a self-taught wire worker who has made some really nice pieces! It will be good to see what she comes up with after learning these new techniques. (Len is a wonderfully supportive hubby who took notes for Gretel while she and I worked together.)

My drive to Tucson this year was pleasant. I stayed to routes south to avoid the horrible weather in Arkansas and Oklahoma, hit some freezing fog and snow around Dallas, and from Fort Worth on the ride was beautiful and clear. My first class at the Jogs Show was my all Wire Unisex Bangle. Pictured are Kathy Leinard of AZ; Diane Wilson of CT; Angela Page of Alberta, Canada; and Michael Breard of AZ. We had a nice time working together and everyone left wearing their beautiful creation. One of the things I really enjoy about 'travel-teaching' are all the wonderful and talented people I meet, from all over the world! (I do aplogize for not taking a better picture.)
